37: Who Are You to Do That? Getting Friendly with Impostor Syndrome

"I have written eleven books, but each time I think, 'uh oh, they’re going to find out now. I’ve run a game on everybody, and they’re going to find me out.' "

— Those are the words that the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and Grammy Award winner (and even Presidential Medial of Freedom recipient) Maya Angelou had to say about impostor syndrome.

Impostor Syndrome is when we feel like we aren’t qualified, don’t deserve our accomplishments, or will be discovered to be an impostor. If you've ever felt like a fraud, this episode is for you.

In this episode, I share about my own experiences with impostor syndrome over the years, some of the research on impostor syndrome, and my best tips for facing it head-on.

I want to emphasize this about Impostor Syndrome: if you experience it, YOU’RE IN REALLY GOOD COMPANY. Most of us who push ourselves to try new things and move to new levels experience it. And awe discuss in this episode, one of the best ways to combat it is to NAME IT, to talk about it with people who get it.
