28: Mental Health, Self Care and Perfectionism with Amy Deland
NOTE: This episode is not a substitute for therapy or psychological care or guidance. But if you take anything away from this episode, I hope it’s that having support to help you with your mental health is such a gift -- I know it has been for me personally.
Mental health is one of the topics closest to my heart, and I've been wanting to find a way to have a conversation about it on this podcast for a while, but wasn't quite sure where to start.
So, I am so glad to have some assistance in talking about this big and important topic from someone whose work centers around mental health - Amy DeLand, founder of Emerge Thriving.
Because of her personal experiences with PTSD, depression, anxiety and generational trauma, Amy knows that removing stigma and creating a clearer path towards resources is critical for our individual and collective health. Emerge Thriving was created to promote awareness for wellness and to connect people to a supportive, inclusive, and stigma-free community, and to make it easy for people to find caring professionals, community events, helpful resources, and services that are designed to help them take steps towards a healthier life.
In this episode, we talk about:
The stigma around mental health
The power in sharing our experiences with mental illness
Why it’s totally okay NOT to share if you’re not ready
Entrepreneurship and mental health
How small businesses can support mental health causes
Forgiveness, perfectionism and boundary-setting
And more
